Hainan constructing large offshore wind farm

The power plant will produce 1 million kilowatts of electricity per year

SANYA, April 26. /TASS/. Chinese companies China Datang (China Datang), Dongfang Electric (Dongfang Electric) and PowerChina (PowerChina) began construction of a wind power plant (WPP) on the coast near Yangpu port in Hainan, the Sansha Weishi TV channel reported.

This industrial park will need a total investment of 4.8 billion yuan (about $731.7 million). It envisages construction of infrastructure for wind and hydrogen energy, as well as an ocean farm. The area of the facility will cover 70.7 hectares.

The wind farm will produce 1 million kilowatts of electricity per year. After the facility is put into operation, its annual revenue is expected to reach 12.4 billion yuan (about $1.89 billion) and tax deductions will be about 550 million yuan per year (about $83.8 million). According to the plan, the wind farm will be commissioned in June 2024.

"The project is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs for local residents. Our company also plans to implement other offshore wind energy projects with a total investment of more than 18 billion yuan (about $2.74 billion)," said Zhang Xinyu, deputy head of a department at Datang Hainan Energy Development.

In addition, Datang is already building other wind power plants near the Hainan city of Danzhou, which will reduce annual coal consumption by 1.1 million tons. The company plans to invest about 4.2 billion yuan (about $640.2 million) in such projects. The company has already invested a total of 27 billion yuan (about $4.12 billion) in this area.

Jia Bingjun, Chairman of Datang Hainan Energy Development, said the company plans to invest another 30 billion yuan (about $4.57 billion) in the construction of gas, wind and solar power plants, as well as in hydrogen power in the future. "We plan to reach 5 million kilowatts of installed capacity and become the largest provider of green energy in Hainan by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025)," he pointed out.
