MOSCOW, March 16. /TASS/. The Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP) under construction in Turkey with Russia’s assistance is planned to be commissioned in 2023 by the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday at the press conference after talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu.
"The Turkey’s first nuclear power plant Akkuyu under construction with the Russian assistance is planned to be commissioned in 2023 by the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey," Lavrov said. "We assume, and it was also noted today, that construction of this major infrastructural installation will support reliable power supplies for Turkish consumers," the Minister noted.
The parties also discussed other strategic projects in the energy sphere, Lavrov said. This sector traditionally "plays the role of the powerhouse in Russian-Turkish economic relations," the Minister added.
