Hainan's Sanya plans to attract tourists with intangible cultural heritage

Sanya is one of the key centers of economic development on Hainan

HAIKOU, August 2. /TASS/. Hainan's Sanya plans to strengthen its status as a regional center for intangible heritage in the coming years through new humanitarian projects supported by the local authorities, reported the Sanya Daily.

According to the newspaper, special attention in the implementation of this program is paid to large-scale events that allow attracting as many tourists as possible. One of the key tasks is to make the cultural heritage of the southernmost province of China recognizable worlwide, to demonstrate its special status.

"We plan to present to the public the historical aspect of Sanya culture, its national culture," explained Zhu Jingwei, head of the program for the development of branch projects of the city administration for culture and tourism.

According to him, local companies are actively working on popular shows, which are expected to become one of the important incentives for the development of consumer tourism. The topics of these fascinating performances include ancient history and rich traditions of small nations, turbulent events of the revolutionary years, as well as novelties of the modern stage.

Moreover, the Sanya authorities offer vacationers to plunge into the everyday life of the Li people - an autochthonous ethnic group that settled on Hainan more than 3,000 years ago. In particular, tourists can learn about the specifics of the local intangible cultural heritage, try their hand at the art of ceramics, whose traditions go back to the Neolithic era.

Sanya is one of the key centers of economic development on Hainan, a significant part of its income comes from the service sector. The island's administration plans to transform the city into a leading financial and economic center with advanced infrastructure, with the headquarters of big Chinese and foreign companies. Known as well worldwide as a first-class resort, this big city is transforming from year to year, attracting the attention of an increasing number of investors.
