Murmansk airport to have new international terminal by 2023

The airport’s upgrade will include making wider runways and aprons, the reconstruction of existing runways to serve bigger aircraft

MURMANSK, January 18. /TASS/. The Novaport Company will build a new, modern international terminal at the Murmansk airport by 2023, the region’s Governor Andrei Chibis told TASS.

"The new terminal will be built before 2023 - it will be a new international terminal, of high quality and very beautiful, with jet bridges and all the rest," he said. "The project is financed fully from private sources."

The airport’s upgrade will include making wider runways and aprons, the reconstruction of existing runways to serve bigger aircraft, the governor added.

"Wider aprons, bigger runways, that is the airport’s infrastructure. We have planned money for those projects," he said. "A separate issue is the upgrade of the runway, which is the most expensive part. Discussions and talks are underway."

In December, 2020, the Murmansk airport completed a reconstruction of the surrounding area. The new parking takes 32,000 square meters - sufficient for almost 500 vehicles at a time. The initial investments were more than 300 million rubles ($4 million). In September, the region announced the reconstruction of the airport’s terminal would be supported by 2.8 billion rubles ($38 million) from the federal budget.
