Over 1,000 shelling attacks by Ukrainian troops reported in DPR over 23 days of escalation

According to the DPR’s mission, Ukrainian troops used heavy weapons in 850 out of the 1,006 cases

DONETSK, March 11. /TASS/. More than 1,000 shelling attacks by Ukrainian troops have been reported in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) over the 23 days of escalation, 26 civilians have been killed, the DPR’s mission to the Joint Control and Coordination Center (JCCC) said on Friday.

"According to the DPR’s mission to the JCCC, over 23 days of escalation, i.e. from February 17, 2022 to 21:00 Moscow time on March 11, 2022, as many as 1,006 shelling attacks were reported," it wrote on its Telegram channel. "Twenty-six civilians were killed. As many as 163 civilians, including 11 children, have received various wounds. Three people were wounded on Friday."

According to the DPR’s mission, Ukrainian troops used heavy weapons in 850 out of the 1,006 cases. In all, 12,764 shells of various caliber, including 13 Tochka-U tactical missiles and 482 missiles from Grad multiple launcher systems, have been fired by Ukrainian troops over 23 days.

As many as 987 dwelling houses, 278 civil infrastructure facilities, including 13 medical establishments, 25 educational establishments, 16 social infrastructure and 16 critical infrastructure facilities, electricity, water and gas supplies systems, were damaged.

Following a dramatic deterioration of the situation in Donbass on February 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21 announced a decision to recognize the sovereignty of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics. The treaties on friendship, cooperation and mutual aid were signed with their leaders. On February 22, the State Duma and the Federation Council ratified both documents and Putin signed the respective laws on the same day. On February 24, Putin said that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in order to protect people "who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, its goals were denazification and demilitarization of that country.
