Ukrainian army’s access to Sea of Azov blocked — Russian Defense Ministry

On February 24, the Russian president launched a special military operation in Ukraine following a request for assistance from the leaders of the Donbass republics

MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. The Ukrainian army’s access to the Sea of Azov is blocked as of today, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told the media.

He said that advancing units of the Donetsk People’s Militia had reached the administrative border of the Donetsk Region to link up with the Russian forces that earlier established control of Ukraine’s districts on the Sea of Azov.

"Starting from today the Ukrainian army’s access to the Sea of Azov is totally blocked," Konashenkov said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24 launched a special military operation in Ukraine following a request for assistance from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He said Moscow had no plans for the occupation of Ukrainian territories. The Russian Defense Ministry says its forces are not attacking cities. Their focus is entirely on military infrastructures. The civilian population is not in danger.
