MOSCOW, July 14. /TASS/. The country’s defense remains a top priority, considering the projected military threats, and Russia will continue developing its Army and Navy, Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Mikhail Popov said in an interview with the government’s Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily on Wednesday.
"Considering the existing and predicted military threats and dangers, and also the degradation of the international legal framework in the military field, the Russian Federation will further develop its Army and Navy, and increase their combat potential," the security official assured.
In this regard, "the country’s defense remains a strategic national priority in the national security strategy," he emphasized.
As the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council pointed out, "victory in any war is ensured by people and the means available for an armed struggle".
"In 2020, we fulfilled the task set by the Russian president and raised the level of advanced armaments and military hardware in the Armed Forces, other troops, military formations and command centers to 70%. Now it is necessary to maintain this figure at the given level," Popov said.
That is why, "the strategy defines the task of keeping the leading positions in developing and producing new (advanced) armaments, military and special hardware and maintaining the troops’ moral-political and psychological state at a high level," he pointed out.
About Russia's national security strategy
As the deputy secretary of Russia’s Security Council stressed, "the new version of Russia’s national security strategy gives a detailed analysis of the present-day military and political situation in the world," which is characterized by emerging new global and regional centers of force and their increasing struggle for spheres of influence."
Also, "the role of the military force as a tool for states to achieve their geopolitical goals is increasing," he added.
"Special attention in implementing military policy is paid to the tasks of timely revealing existing and potential military dangers and military threats, improving military planning, ensuring the balanced development of all components of defense, mobilization training and mobilization in Russia," Popov said.
As the Russian security official pointed out, "amid the weakened influence of international institutions, the reduced efficiency of the system of global and regional security and unfriendly acts that foreign states are committing, the goal of protecting national interests and our country’s citizens outside its borders is a crucial task that has been reflected in the new version of the national security strategy."
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on July 3 to approve the new version of the country’s national security strategy to replace the previous document adopted on December 31, 2015.
