NEW YORK, March 15. /TASS/. The US authorities intend to tighten entry regulations for citizens of 43 countries, including Russia and Belarus, The New York Times reported citing sources.
According to them, Washington will not close its borders for Russians and Belarusians completely. However, only wealthy entrepreneurs visiting the United States for business-related matters will be able to obtain visas. Tourists and migrants from Russia and Belarus will apparently be denied entry, the sources of the newspaper in the US government said.
The new rules of entry to the United States will affect 41 more nations. It was reported that the US Department of State proposed to divide these countries into three categories. Citizens of the countries in the first group will be prohibited to cross the US border. This includes Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
The second category implies significant restrictions on visiting the US. In addition to Russia and Belarus, eight other countries are included: Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Turkmenistan.
The US authorities included the states, regarding which the information on inspections is insufficient, which requires either a partial or complete travel ban to the United States, in the third group. This applies to Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Sao Tome and Principe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, it is specified that the aforementioned list of countries and their grouping was developed by the State Department several weeks ago and it could now be modified.
