MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. Famine remains one of the world's most pressing challenges, with over 730 million people suffering from hunger and nearly two billion lacking regular access to nutritious food, said Victoria Kalinin, communications officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) regional office in Budapest.
She emphasized that since its founding, the organization has worked tirelessly to ensure food security and improve living conditions worldwide, establishing itself as a key player on the international stage for 80 years.
"Despite the progress made, hunger remains a persistent challenge. Today, more than 730 million people still suffer from hunger, while two billion lack consistent access to safe and nutritious food. This highlights the urgent need to continue our efforts to combat hunger and poverty," Kalinin said at a briefing marking the 10th anniversary of the agreement to establish a FAO office in Moscow and the organization's 80th anniversary.
Meanwhile, Kalinin stressed that FAO remains committed to advancing its mission and will continue working toward a system of universal and equitable access to nutritious food.
"We must strengthen international cooperation, adopt data-driven approaches, and ensure the sustainable development of the agricultural and food industries," she emphasized.
