RABAT, January 1. /TASS/. Hundreds of Syria’s medical institutions and centers have been partially or completely destroyed, the minister of health in the interim government, Maher al-Sharaa, has said.
"Hundreds of medical facilities and centers are partially or completely destroyed. We are currently organizing help to the population," the SANA news agency quotes him as saying.
According to al-Sharaa, the Health Ministry has prioritized measures to address the sector's problems.
"Work is underway to improve working conditions and the economic position of medical personnel," he stressed.
The minister declared that a "new phase is beginning in the health sector that will meet the interests of the people and their well-being."
In late November, armed opposition groups launched a large-scale offensive against the positions of the Syrian army. On December 8, they entered Damascus. President Bashar Assad resigned and left the country. On December 10, Mohammed al-Bashir, who had led the so-called Salvation Government in Idlib province, announced his appointment as head of the Syrian interim Cabinet. The transitional period will last until March 1, 2025.
