US has no technical need to conduct nuclear tests, senior official says

According to Jill Hruby, officials in the Biden administration "never talk about resuming nuclear tests"

WASHINGTON, November 14. /TASS/. Washington has no technical need to conduct nuclear tests, despite calls in the United States to resume those, including by people in US President-elect Donald Trump’s circle, Jill Hruby, Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) at the US Department of Energy (DOE), confirmed to TASS on Wednesday.

"There is no technical need to nuclear test. You just heard some other viewpoints on that. But there is no technical need to nuclear test," said Hruby, who also serves as Under Secretary for Nuclear Security of the DOE, referring to statements from US non-government experts who appeared with her at a nuclear seminar in Washington on Wednesday.

"We (officials in the Biden administration - TASS) never talk about resuming nuclear tests, that is, in official channels. If you think there is talk about resuming nuclear tests that you hear, that, they are in unofficial channels," Hruby assured a TASS reporter. When asked to specify whether discussions about the possibility of resuming nuclear tests in the United States may reflect the official position of the present-day administration in Washington, she said: "Absolutely not."
