Ukraine rejects option for pause in hostilities

In Vladimir Zelensky opinion, Russia is interested in such pause "not to hold negotiations, but to replenish its military potential and to train conscripts"

PARIS, March 11. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky rejected an option of a pause in hostilities in an interview for France’s BFMTV.

He claimed that "Russia needs a pause in combat action like oxygen." In his opinion, Russia is interested in such pause "not to hold negotiations, but to replenish its military potential and to train conscripts."

Previously, Pope Francis called to begin a negotiations process on Ukraine with involvement of international mediators in his interview for Switzerland’s RSI.

According to the pontiff, when someone sees that "they are defeated, that something goes wrong, one must show courage and begin negotiations" in order to avoid the worst and avoid new deaths. He used the term "white flag" in his speech, which many interpreted as a call for Kiev’s capitulation. Meanwhile, Vatican pointed out that the Pope said that negotiations "never mean capitulation, but courage.".
