Turkey pushes for resolving Ukraine conflict via dialogue

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the telephone

ANKARA, March 25. /TASS/. Ankara deems it important to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine via talks as soon as possible, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation on Saturday.

"President Erdogan said he attached great importance to efforts toward ending the conflict between Russia and Ukraine via talks as soon as possible," the Turkish president’s office told reporters.

Ankara has repeatedly come up with an idea of mediating negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Turkey also hosted talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on January 11 that Russia had always been willing to look for solutions at negotiations. However, he pointed out that Ukrainian laws ban that country’s president from holding talks with the Kremlin, whereas the West is "obviously reluctant to allow Kiev any flexibility here," and therefore "there is no discussing any prospect [for talks with Ukraine]," Peskov clarified.
