Nearly all of those killed in Peshawar mosque blast were policemen — interior minister

100 people were killed and more than 200 were wounded

ISLAMABAD, January 31. /TASS/. Most of those killed in the explosion at a mosque in the city of Peshawar, not far from Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan, are police officers, Pakistani Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday.

"As a result of the terror attack, 97 policemen and three civilians were killed," he said at the National Assembly. His speech was televised by the Arya News TV channel.

He criticized the previous ruling party, the Movement for Justice. "Decisions made in the past four years were the key reason for growing terrorism," he said.

According to local security services, a suicide bomber set off an explosive device during a noon prayer in the crowded mosque. Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP, outlawed in Pakistan and linked with the Taliban movement, which is banned in Russia) took responsibility for the blast. According to the latest update, 100 people were killed and more than 200 were wounded.
