Around 150 people injured as tornado causes major damage in Czech Republic - rescuers

Special services note that seven towns and villages were affected

PRAGUE, June 24. /TASS/. Around 150 people, including children, have been injured in tornado and strong winds on Thursday in the southeast Czech Republic, South Moravian Region, Hedviga Kropackova, a spokesperson for the rescue and firefighting service, told reporters.

"We found 150 injuries, including children, in the South Moravian Region due to extremely powerful winds and tornado," she said. "I can confirm that there are victims but we do not know their precise number," Kropackova added.

Special services note that seven towns and villages were affected. Some people are still under rubble, rescue operations are underway. Czech Deputy Prime Minister Jan Hamacek is already in Brno, administrative capital of the South Moravian Region.
