BBC says it complies with Russian legislation

On January 31, Russia’s media watchdog said that the Russian broadcaster of the BBC World News had committed "certain violations"

LONDON, January 31. /TASS/. BBC remains committed to its previous position with regard to compliance with the Russian legislation, a spokesperson with the British Broadcasting Corporation told TASS.

The BBC was asked to comment on the latest statement by the Russian media watchdog about violations revealed at the British Television company, a Russian broadcaster of the BBC World News.

"We have nothing further to add to our previous statement, which was: "As a global broadcaster, BBC fully complies with the legislation and regulations of every country where it operates, including Russia, and we are always ready to provide additional information about our coverage when requested by the appropriate regulator," the BBC spokesperson said.

Earlier on Thursday, Russia’s media watchdog Roskomnadzor reported that it had revealed violations at the Russian broadcaster of the BBC World News - LLC British Television.

According to the regulator, "an unscheduled audit" was conducted regarding the British Television and "certain violations" have been revealed.

The regulator added that it was assessing the procedural status of these violations and would report on the measures it was to take later.

On December 21, 2018, Roskomnadzor announced that it was launching a probe into the BBC’s websites and the BBC World News channel for violations of Russian laws following British media regulator Ofcom’s statement, which said that the RT TV channel had broken impartiality rules.

On January 9, the regulator requested the company to provide documents confirming compliance with the requirements of the law on the restriction of direct or indirect control of Russian media by foreign organizations.

From January 14 to January 31, the watchdog checked British Television for compliance with the requirements of TV and radio broadcasting.
