FIFA’s Samoura: Football fans to appreciate ‘compact nature’ of 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Qatar is set to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup at seven venues across the country

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Football fans will duly appreciate the compact nature of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura told TASS.

Qatar is set to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup between November 21 and December 18 at seven venues across the country, namely in Doha, Lusail, Al-Wakrah, Al-Khor, Al-Rayyan, Umm Salal and Madinat ash Shamal.

"The compact nature of the World Cup in Qatar will make it something exceptional for the fans," Samoura, who paid a visit to Moscow this week, said in an interview with TASS.

"It’s going to be a great fun experience because of the possibility to visit several stadiums and see several matches at the same time," she said. "It will be the World Cup when people could see between two to three matches per day because the longest distance between two venues is one hour."

Qatar won the right to host the matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on December 2, 2010.

In March 2015, FIFA officially announced that the 22nd edition of FIFA’s flagship event would be played in November and December 2022, with the final match set for December 18, 2022 - Qatar National Day - and with the objective, in principle, of holding the tournament for 28 days.
