ST. PETERSBURG, November 29. /TASS/. An exhibition dedicated to the Soviet Degtyaryov machine gun opened at the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers and Signal Corps in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.

The machine gun was in service from 1928 until the 1960s. It was widely used by the Red Army soldiers during World War II.

The Degtyaryov machine gun had a disc-shaped pan magazine and weighed about 15 kilograms.

"The exhibition tells about the designing and testing of the Degtyaryov machine gun in 1927," the museum’s press service told TASS.

A machine gun, which designer Vasily Degtyaryov presented to the museum in 1946, will be also put on display.

The exhibition will last till February 2018.

The exhibition’s venue is one of the world’s largest military historical museums. Its collections consist of Russian military equipment, uniforms and decorations, as well as battle paintings and archive documents.
