More than half of Russians expect 2025 to be a successful year, poll reveals

The survey also revealed that 53% of Russians consider 2024 to have been very successful and generally good for them

MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. More than half of Russians (55%) anticipate 2025 to be a successful year for the country, while 40% predict challenges, Valery Fyodorov, Director General of the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM), said at a press conference in Moscow.

"As for expectations for the country in general, 40% foresee hard times ahead. This is a notable increase, as a year ago it was 33%. However, the share of those who believe that 2025 will bring success remains higher at 55%," he said.

Regarding personal expectations, 68% of respondents express optimism that the coming year will be positive for them and their families.

"There was not a single case where negative assessments outnumbered positive ones. And the optimism is quite evident. Over the last five years, 65% to 70% have consistently expected improvements in their personal situations. In 2024, 68% are projecting favorable outcomes for 2025. While there are negative forecasts, they remain limited, at 25%," Fyodorov added.

The survey also revealed that 53% of Russians consider 2024 to have been very successful and generally good for them.

"In the last three years - 2022-2024 - positive assessments have consistently dominated. In 2022, 52% of respondents described the past 12 months as very successful, generally a good time for them. In 2023, the number rose to 57%, and now it stands at 53%. At the other end of the spectrum, negative assessments have been steadily lower than positive ones over the past three years. But they remain present - 45% in 2022, 41% in 2023, and in December 2024, 43% of respondents reported that this year was challenging for them and their families," Fyodorov said.

Approximately 70% of respondents described the past year as difficult for Russia as a whole, while 23% believed it to be successful.

"Last year, the ratio was similar, 66% and 26%. Over the past five years, the most difficult year remains 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic. At that time, assessments were as follows: 88% described the year as very difficult, and only 8% viewed it positively," the VCIOM director concluded.

The all-Russian telephone survey VCIOM-Sputnik was conducted on December 6, 2024, among 1,600 Russians over the age of 18. The survey method was a telephone interview using a stratified random sample.
