MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Icelandic director, screenwriter and producer Fridrik Thor Fridriksson has been appointed to head the jury that will give the award for best feature film at the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) in 2024, Ivan Kudryavtsev, the chairman of the festival's selection committee, has announced.
"The jury president for this year's main competition [will be] Icelandic director, screenwriter and producer Fridrik Thor Fridriksson. He is the founder of Iceland's biggest production company, the Icelandic Film Corporation, a traditional partner of Lars von Trier's Zentropa and Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope. He also has an Oscar nomination for his film Children of Nature," he said at a press conference.
The main jury will also include Russian director and screenwriter Igor Voloshin, known for the films "Nirvana," "Beduin," "Fast Moscow-Russia," actress Elena Lyadova and Turkish director Huseyin Karabey.
Other juries
The jury for the documentary film competition, chaired by South African director and producer Rehad Desai, includes Turkish documentary filmmaker Hakan Aytekin and Russian director and screenwriter Sergey Golovetsky. The best among the films in the Russian Premiers national competition will be chosen by the jury chairman, producer Alexander Akopov, actress, director and screenwriter Tatiana Lyutayeva and director Andrey Zaytsev.
The jury for the short film competition includes Russian actress Maria Andreeva and American director Max Weisberg. The short film jury is headed by Moroccan director and film critic Abdelilah El Jaouhary.
The MIFF will be held in Moscow on April 19-26. The Moscow International Film Festival was first held in 1935. In 1995, it was announced that the film festival would become an annual event, but in 1996 and 1998 the festival was not held. Since 1999, the MIFF has been held every year.
