MOSCOW, January 18. /TASS/. Russia’s sports ministry plans to begin vaccination of athletes of Russian national teams against the novel coronavirus infection in March, a high-ranking ministry official said on Monday.
"Athletes of Russian national teams are getting prepared for vaccination," Alexei Morozov, director of the ministry’s high performance sport department, said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel. "In December, we had a big meeting with officials from the Federal Medical Biological Agency, the Russian Olympic Committee, national sports federations, and chief coaches and took a decision to begin vaccination. Naturally, it will be voluntary for each athlete."
"We are in consultation with the Russian health ministry and the sanitary watchdog on the vaccination procedure. There are certain restrictions as far as athletes are concerned: an athlete should not be in the period of competitions or has serious exercise loads. We expect the vaccination campaign amid professional athletes to begin from March," he said.
