WHO says no evidence of Russia’s underreporting COVID-19 mortality

According to the latest update, as many as 107 coronavirus-positive patients died in Russia in the past day and the overall number of coronavirus-associated deaths reached 2,116

MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/. The World Health Organization (WHO) sees no evidence that Russia underreports deliberately coronavirus mortality rates, WHO’s Representative to Russia Melita Vujnovic said on Tuesday.

"No deliberate underreporting [of coronavirus-related deaths] is observed," she said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.

She did not rule out though that the statistics of coronavirus-related deaths in Russia would be reviewed.

According to the latest update from Russia’s anti-coronavirus crisis center, as many as 107 coronavirus-positive patients died in Russia in the past day and the overall number of coronavirus-associated deaths reached 2,116.

To date, a total of 232,243 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Russia, with 43,512 patients having recovered from the virus. Earlier, the Russian government set up an Internet hotline to keep the public updated on the coronavirus situation.
