Russia’s national project bolstering road infrastructure to help reduce fatalities

Russia’s national project dubbed Safe and High-Quality Roads is expected to cut road fatalities by 3.5 times compared to 2017, bringing the number to no more than four per 100,000 population

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Russia’s national project dubbed Safe and High-Quality Roads, planned to be implemented by 2024, is expected to cut road fatalities by 3.5 times compared to 2017, bringing the number to no more than four per 100,000 population and to zero level by 2030, according to documents on the national projects, which have been published on the government’s website.

Another goal laid out in the national project is to ease the burden of overloaded federal and regional motorways making it ten percent less strained than in 2017. There are also plans to halve accident-prone areas compared to 2017.

The national project also stipulates the establishment of a register for the best and newest technologies, materials and reusable technological solutions. Meanwhile, the share of contracts related to road activity within the national project, which involve the use of new technologies and materials, is expected to rise by 80% by 2024.

Furthermore, the national project has set the goal of increasing the share of the Russian Defense Ministry’s motorways that meet regulatory requirements by 60% by the end of 2024.
