Too early to say Russia will quit ISS project — Roscosmos head

Yury Borisov said the decision on how long Russia will remain part of the project will hinge on the technical condition of the Russian segment, the timeline of the deployment of the Russian orbital station, when Russian cosmonauts will start flights to it and some other factors

MOSCOW, November 17. /TASS/. It’s too early to say that Russia will quit the project of the International Space Station, Roscosmos Director General Yury Borisov said in an interview with TASS.

"We now have a Russian cabinet decision <…> to extend the flight of the Russian segment of the ISS to 2024. There’s no other official document that regulates further participation or exit from the ISS program after 2024 as yet. Therefore, it’s too early to say Russia is leaving the ISS program," he said.

Borisov said the decision on how long Russia will remain part of the project will hinge on the technical condition of the Russian segment, the timeline of the deployment of the Russian orbital station, when Russian cosmonauts will start flights to it and some other factors.

"Our main goal is to ensure continuity of manned spaceflight," he said.
