MOSCOW, January 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin nearly doubled the number of his foreign visits in 2024, according to TASS estimates.

The president made 11 visits to other countries last year compared to six in 2023.

In 2024, the Russian leader visited China, North Korea, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. He traveled to Kazakhstan and Belarus twice.

Foreign visits

Putin made several state visits after being re-elected as Russian president. He paid his first state visit of the year to China’s Beijing and Harbin in mid-May. The president’s state visit to the Uzbek capital of Tashkent took place later the same month. In June, Putin traveled to Pyongyang and Hanoi and made a state visit to Baku in August.

The Russian leader’s official visit to Ulaanbaatar took place in early September, followed by a working visit to Ashgabat in October. The Russian president made a visit to Kazakhstan’s capital of Astana in July for a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and in November, for a state visit and a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. As for Belarus, Putin paid an official visit to Minsk in May and traveled to the country once again in December for a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.

In 2023, Putin visited Kyrgyzstan, China, Kazakhstan, Belarus, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Notably, all the trips took place between October and December, following a break in foreign visits that had lasted from December 2022. That said, Putin has made a total of 17 visits to 12 countries since October 2023.

Trips to Russian regions

The president also made 30 trips to the country’s region in 2024. His first trip was to Chukotka in Russia’s Far East; notably, this was the president’s first-ever visit to the region.

Putin traveled to the Tver Region, Sochi and Kazan more than once. The capital of the Tatarstan Region hosted the BRICS summit in October, one of the largest international events in recent years.

Putin visited St. Petersburg six times, particularly taking part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Other destinations included Chechnya, where Putin traveled for the first time since 2011.
