Russia not expecting US election to lead to changes in bilateral relations — Lavrov

The top Russian diplomat recalled that under then US President Donald Trump, "some of the toughest, as it seemed then, sanctions were adopted"

ANTALYA, March 1. /TASS/. Moscow does not expect that the next presidential election in the United States will facilitate some changes in bilateral relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

"We are not expecting any changes that the election in the United States might bring about," he said.

The top Russian diplomat recalled that under then US President Donald Trump, "some of the toughest, as it seemed then, sanctions were adopted."

"However, the administration of [US President Joe] Biden has outperformed everyone," he added.

The US will hold its 60th quadrennial presidential election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Biden officially launched his campaign to seek a second term in the White House on April 25, 2023. Trump announced his own comeback re-election bid in November 2022.
