Deputy foreign minister discusses Russia-ASEAN dialogue prospects in Myanmar

MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko during his visit to Myanmar held consultations on the prospects of dialogue between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as bilateral interaction between Moscow and Naypyidaw in a number of areas, including tourist exchanges, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Rudenko was received by Myanmar`s Deputy Foreign Minister Lwin Oo, the country's Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Than Swe.

"In the course of the exchange of views on bilateral issues, the sides expressed mutual satisfaction with the achieved level of trustful political dialogue, including at the high and highest levels," the ministry said.

"The importance of continuing the dense joint work on strengthening the legal framework, deepening trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation, including in the sphere of education and tourist exchanges was emphasized," the ministry said. The sides had a detailed exchange of views on cooperation within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, including taking into account the forthcoming transition to Myanmar of the responsibilities of coordinator of the Russia-ASEAN dialogue.

The sides also confirmed the coincidence of the two countries' approaches on topical global and regional issues, mutual focus on further efforts to coordinate at multilateral and regional platforms in order to consolidate the foundations of multipolarity and strengthen the positions of the countries of the global South.
