UNITED NATIONS, November 22. /TASS/. European Council President Charles Michel should have apologized to Ukrainians for all unfulfilled promises made by the European Union, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya has said.

When asked by a TASS correspondent to comment on Michel’s recent visit to Kiev, which coincided with the anniversary of Euromaidan events, Nebenzya said: "I think he [Michel] should have come to apologize to Ukrainians for all the promises that he made to them but could not and can not fulfill."

European Council President Charles Michel arrived in Kiev with an unannounced visit on the anniversary of the "Euromaidan" coup. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and President of Moldova Maia Sandu also traveled to the Ukrainian capital.

The events that were dubbed the "Euromaidan" started on November 21, 2013, in Ukraine. On that day, the Ukrainian government announced a suspension of the signing of the agreement on association with the European Union; in response, the opposition started large-scale protests in Kiev, which escalated into riots. The political crisis has led to a coup d’etat in February, 2014. In March, 2014, Crimea and Sevastopol joined Russia after having referendums.
