Putin appoints new Russian ambassador to Cameroon

In another decree, the President dismissed Anatoly Bashkin, who had been the Russian ambassador to Cameroon since 2017

MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree appointing Georgy Todua as the new Russian ambassador to Cameroon.

"To appoint Georgy Todua as the Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cameroon," the document says.

In another decree, the President dismissed Anatoly Bashkin, who had been the Russian ambassador to Cameroon since 2017. The decree also relieves him from his post as head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Equatorial Guinea, which he had held part-time since 2018.

Georgy Todua was born in 1964. He embarked on a diplomatic career in 1990. He worked in the Russian Foreign Ministry’s central office and also abroad. From December 2014 to July 2019, he was Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Burundi. He then worked as Deputy Director of the Africa Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry. He holds the diplomatic rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary First Class. He speaks Spanish, French, English and Georgian.
