MOSCOW, January 27. /TASS/. Tensions around the situation in Ukraine are rising due to Washington’s decisions and US pressure on other countries, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

When speaking to reporters, he partially agreed with former US President Donald Trump’s remark about the dangers that Western tank supplies to Ukraine could create. "One can agree with this remark because tensions are really escalating," Peskov noted.

According to him, "tensions are rising particularly due to the decisions that are made, first and foremost, in Washington and in European capitals under Washington’s pressure." "It is about the supplies of weapons, tanks and other things, and ongoing discussions that now concern aircraft," Peskov specified. "In this regard, tensions are mounting," the Russian presidential spokesman said.

Trump warned on Thursday that the West’s move to provide tanks to Kiev could trigger a nuclear conflict and called for ending military activities in Ukraine as soon as possible.

The German government confirmed on Wednesday that it would send 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and would also give re-export permission to other countries. US President Joe Biden later announced Washington’s plans to provide 31 Abrams tanks to Kiev. Biden claimed that the decision was not about fighting against Russia but about "freedom." In addition, the US president alleged that tank supplies did not mean "an offensive threat to Russia."
