Kremlin highlights sector where efforts to overcome Russia's import dependency succeeded

On Monday president Vladimir Putin will launch a turkey breeding center in Tyumen Region via video link and listen to a report by Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev focusing on the livestock and poultry industry

MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. Russia’s dependency on the import of livestock used to be high, but efforts to overcome this issue are paying off, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

President Vladimir Putin will launch a turkey breeding center in Russia’s Tyumen Region via video link and listen to a report by Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev focusing on the livestock and poultry industry, as well as on the development prospects of the country’s breeding and selection for the industry on Monday, Peskov noted.

This is "a complex event that concerns each citizen," he added. "Here import dependency was quite high, yet work is in progress to overcome this dependency, which is very important and [this effort] has just begun to yield its first dividends," Peskov explained.

"A significant event in the president’s schedule related to the development of domestic breeding and selection of the meat and poultry sector of the agriculture industry is set. This crucial sector is directly connected with Russia’s food security," the presidential spokesman stressed.

Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov and representatives of relevant enterprises are expected to participate in the event.
