Patriarch Kirill urges Duma speaker to organize discussion of bill banning LGBT propaganda

A bill banning the propaganda of nontraditional relations and the rejection of family values was initiated by several lawmakers on July 18

MOSCOW, August 26. /TASS/. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill has called on Speaker of the Russian State Duma (lower house) Vyacheslav Volodin to organize a public discussion of a bill banning propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations, the Duma’s Telegram channel said on Friday.

"Patriarch Kirill asked Vyacheslav Volodin to organize a public discussion of a bill banning the propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations. <…> In his address, the patriarch positively assessed the draft of a federal law and its relevance, and spoke in favor of this initiative," it said.

A bill banning the propaganda of nontraditional relations and the rejection of family values was initiated by several lawmakers on July 18. According to the initiators, it is necessary to adopt measures to ensure the "intellectual, moral and psychological security of society, even in the form of a ban on activities seeking to popularize nontraditional sexual relations and the rejection of family values.".
