MOSCOW, August 25. /TASS/. A Kaliningrad resident was apprehended by the Federal Security Service - the FSB - for plotting terrorist attacks against the Baltic Fleet’s facilities and Khrabrovo Airport on instructions from the Azov terrorist organization (outlawed in Russia), the FSB told TASS on Thursday.
"Russia’s Federal Security Service has thwarted a terrorist attack on military and transport infrastructure facilities in the Kaliningrad Region," the FSB reported. A resident of Kaliningrad born in 1967, who supported the Azov international terrorist organization (outlawed in Russia), was detained for plotting terrorist attacks on the Baltic Fleet’s facilities and personnel as well as Khrabrovo Airport, the FSB specified.
A self-made explosive device, containing roughly 5 kg of TNT equivalent, was found in his cache, and the individual in question confessed.
The detainee had also plotted an act of terror in a neighboring country on orders from his Ukraine-based coordinators. Materials for explosive devices were also found in his home, and correspondence with Azov members exposing his criminal intentions was uncovered.
FSB investigators have opened a criminal case, and searches and an investigation are in progress.
