Ukrainian residents may get Russian citizenship in Zaporozhye

Earlier, the head of the now-liberated Kherson Region in southern Ukraine, also announced a decision to cancel fees and lift all restrictions on local residency permits

SIMFEROPOL, June 9. /TASS/. Ukrainians arriving in the liberated areas of the Zaporozhye Region may apply for Russian citizenship regardless of their residency permits free of charge, a local official told TASS on Thursday.

Earlier, the head of the now-liberated Kherson Region in southern Ukraine, announced a decision to cancel fees and lift all restrictions on local residency permits.

"We are using the same criteria for helping people submit their documents," Vladimir Rogov, a member of the local administration’s chief council, said when asked whether his region was following similar rules.

Rogov said earlier the liberated areas in his region had a population of around 1 million people, and residents of the other Ukrainian regions had been pouring in. Rogov has said some 70% of the Zaporozhye region’s territory has so far been liberated, yet the Kiev regime’s forces still control its capital where almost half of all Zaporozhye region residents live.

On May 25, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree relaxing rules for granting Russian citizenship to residents of Ukraine’s Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
