LPR will never be under Kiev’s control again — republic’s leader

Leonid Pasechnik asked all citizens to be calm and promised that the republic had set a firm foothold to stay for long

MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/. The authorities in Kiev will never manage to put the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic under control again, the LPR’s leader, Leonid Pasechnik, said on Thursday.

"At first, the people [in the liberated regions] looked scared. It goes without saying that pressure from the other side is continuing. Ukraine keeps saying that it will get back to these territories and that revenge will follow. We are asking all our citizens to be calm and promise them that we have set a firm foothold to stay for long. Current Ukraine’s neo-Nazi authorities will not be allowed to return to this land," Pasechnik said on the NTV channel.

Tensions on the engagement line in Donbass soared on February 17. The Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics said they had been exposed to the most intensive bombardments from Ukraine in several months. Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 21 declared the recognition of the DPR and the LPR as sovereign states in accordance with their constitutions within the borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine that existed at the beginning of 2014. On February 24, Putin responded to a request for assistance from the Donbass republics and launched a special miliary operation. The DPR and LPR started their own campaigns for liberating their territories that sill remained under Kiev’s control.
