Russia's current task is to prevent major military conflict in the world — senior diplomat

Despite the efforts from the West, the shaping of the foundations of a polycentric world order is gaining momentum, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov also pointed out

MOSCOW, April 25. /TASS/. Russia now sets the objective to avert a large-scale military conflict in the world and work out new rules for peaceful existence, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov told a meeting of the upper house’s ad hoc commission for the protection of state sovereignty and prevention of interference in Russia’s internal affairs on Monday.

"Despite the efforts from the West, the shaping of the foundations of a polycentric world order is gaining momentum. Within this context, efforts to prevent a large-scale conflict and work out new rules of peaceful existence based on respect for legitimate interests of all states become of priority importance for us," he said.

The current political differences with Europe and the US come as a result of disregard for the vital interests of Russia within the past 30 years, Ivanov noted. "At the same time, we can already say for sure now that the developments unfolding around Ukraine will have a profound impact on the balance of power in the world," the senior diplomat stressed.
