UN reveals number of Ukrainian refugees

According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, the number has reached one million

MOSCOW, March 3. /TASS/. The number of Ukrainian refugees who left for neighboring countries in the last seven days has reached 1 million, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said on Thursday night.

"In just seven days we have witnessed the exodus of one million refugees from Ukraine to neighboring countries," Grandi wrote on his Twitter page.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in order to protect people "who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories; the goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country.

After that, the US, the EU, the UK, and a number of other states announced that they were imposing sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities.
