Oil tanker temporarily lost power in Baltic Sea due to engine failure — newspaper

The incident occurred between the German island of Ruegen and the Danish island of Moen

BERLIN, October 19. /TASS/. A large oil tanker, the Sled, temporarily lost propulsion in the Baltic Sea due to an engine failure, the Bild newspaper reported.

The incident occurred between the German island of Ruegen and the Danish island of Moen. Late Saturday night into Sunday morning, at around 01:30 a.m. local time (11:30 p.m. GMT), the tanker dramatically reduced its speed and subsequently anchored half a nautical mile from the border of Denmark's territorial waters. Due to strong easterly winds drifting the disabled vessel toward Danish waters, the Vessel Traffic Service Center in Warnemuende dispatched the rescue tug VB Bremen Fighter from the German port of Mukran to the incident scene. By Monday morning, the tanker managed to restore its maneuverability and has currently resumed its westward transit.

The tanker was en route from the Russian port of Primorsk to Skagen in Denmark, the newspaper said.
