Earthquake in southern Kazakhstan had no effect on Baikonur operations, says Roscosmos

The epicenter of the disaster was located 628 km west of Almaty

MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. The earthquake, which was recorded in the south of Kazakhstan, has not affected the work of the Baikonur Cosmodrome for the time being, the Roscosmos press service told TASS on Monday.

"The earthquake has not affected the work of the cosmodrome at the moment," the state corporation said.

Earlier, the seismological experimental expedition of Kazakhstan's Emergencies Ministry reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 occurred in the south of Kazakhstan. According to it, the underground shock was recorded at 19:02 local time (16:02 Moscow time). The epicenter of the disaster was located 628 km west of Almaty. The origin was located at a depth of 5 km. At the same time, an earthquake with a magnitude of 2 to 3 was recorded in Shymkent, and a 2-magnitude quake was registered in the village of Temirlan.
