"All the supplies are halted, including those for the energy and steel industries," a railway worker said.
The Donbas region does not supply anthracite coal to west Ukraine as well. The reserves of this sort of fuel used by half of the Ukrainian thermal power plants are enough for three weeks of operating.
According to the Energy and Coal Ministry, thermal power plants have some 2.5 million tonnes of coal, including one million of anthracite coal. Ukraine is expecting 160,000 tonnes supply from South Africa, but there are no other planned imports by sea.
According to experts, the halt of coal supplies from Donbas and Russia in a week will cause shortage of the fuel taking into account the fall of temperature.
