MOSCOW, May 7. /TASS/. Russia’s Rostec State Corporation began supplying the new Sarma multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) to the military last year, Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"We started supplying the military with the new Sarma multiple launch rocket system in 2025," the Rostec CEO said.
Having a caliber of 300 mm, he added, the main advantage of the combat vehicle is its power, mobility, and fortitude. "Because the cabin, where the crew is located, is armored. It only takes three minutes to deploy to position and get ready to fire, and three minutes to withdraw. It's highly mobile. A full salvo launch takes just 18 seconds," he noted.
The Sarma multiple launch rocket system was unveiled at the World Defense Show in Saudi Arabia in February 2026.
The Sarma is a successor to the Smerch and Tornado-S heavy MLRS line. It also has a 300mm caliber, but has fewer launch tubes--six instead of twelve. This significantly reduces the vehicle’s overall weight, increasing its mobility and cross-country ability. The Sarma is equipped with a modern automated fire control system.
