Fundamental changes in Russian trade routes affect at least 40% of exports and imports

ACRA noted that the share of BRICS countries in foreign trade turnover increased from 20-25% in 2022 to 45-55% in 2024

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Against the backdrop of the structural transformation of the Russian economy, fundamental changes in trade routes have affected at least 40% of exports and imports of Russian goods since 2022, when the BRICS countries replaced the Western countries and became Russia’s main trade partners, according to a study from the Analytical Credit Rating Agency (ACRA).

"The fundamental changes in trade routes affected at least 40% of exports and imports of goods. The main shifts occurred in 2022 and 2023, when in a year and a half the original members of BRICS (in 2006-2011 the organization included Brazil, Russia, India, and China) replaced Western countries as Russia's main trading partners," the report said.

ACRA noted that the share of BRICS countries in foreign trade turnover increased from 20-25% in 2022 to 45-55% in 2024. The role of Russia's Central Asian neighbors also increased, as did that of Belarus, but to a much lesser extent. In terms of product groups, the trade structure has not changed significantly.

In addition to the reorientation of trade directions, the currency structure of payments for exports and imports, the types of transportation used, and much more have also changed.
