Poland to import 10% of LPG from Russia after EU sanctions take effect

According to the Polish Liquid Gas Association, Poland purchased about $500 mln worth of liquefied petroleum gas from Russia during the first ten months of 2024

MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Poland plans to import 10% of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumed by the country from Russia in 2025 after the transitional period for EU sanctions on imports of this fuel from Russia ended on December 20, Director of the Polish Liquid Gas Association (POGP) Bartosz Kwiatkowski told the PAP news agency.

"In this scenario, we anticipate that about 10% of liquefied [petroleum] gas imports to Poland next year will be from the eastern direction in accordance with the sanctions policy," Kwiatkowski said. Continued LPG imports from Russia is related to aliphatic saturated hydrocarbons not being covered by European sanctions, the news agency said. Russia has recently increased the proportions of these hydrocarbons in its LPG exports, the director noted.

According to POGP, Poland purchased two bln zloty (about $500 mln) worth of LPG from Russia during the first ten months of 2024. Imports from Russia made up more than 50% of total liquefied petroleum gas purchases by Warsaw in the first half of this year, with Russia’s share gradually declining to 25% in November.
