MOSCOW, November 22. /TASS/. Foreign banks have stopped accepting Russian Mir payment cards due to the possibility of secondary sanctions, but there are still countries willing to work with the Russian system, CEO of NSPK (MIR Payment System operator) Vladimir Komlev said on Tuesday.
"The Turkish market worked until Turkish banks faced secondary sanctions, at which point they gradually ceased accepting Mir cards. However, from February to September, Mir cards were a full-fledged international payment instrument and continue that," Komlev said.
According to him, not all countries have stopped working with the Russian payment system. "Countries like Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and a number of other countries continue to not just work with our payment system - they actively work with it, developing technology and services," he added.
Previously, a number of prominent Turkish banks indicated that they would no longer service Mir payment cards. Banks in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Vietnam, and Kazakhstan reported a suspension of work with Russian payment system cards.
