Russia can potentially supply Europe with 63 bcm gas per year through Turkey

Alexander Novak added that Russia is not interested in high gas prices because this leads to an accelerated introduction of renewable energy sources

MOSCOW, October 14. /TASS/. Russia can potentially export to Europe through Turkey and the Black Sea around 63 bln cubic meters of gas per year, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with Anadolu agency.

"South Stream was planned for four lines with a capacity of around 63 bln cubic meters. These potential capacities, if there is demand, can be used to deliver gas to European consumers via the Black Sea and Turkey, provided that the relevant pipelines can be operated reliably and safely," Novak said.

At the same time, he added that Russia is not interested in high gas prices because this leads to an accelerated introduction of renewable energy sources. "We do not want high prices because if prices are high, alternative renewable energy sources may start to be used quicker," Novak said.

Current prices on the gas market were created artificially because the European politicians created themselves the problem of natural gas supplies, the Deputy Prime Minister added.
