MURMANSK, May 12. /TASS/. The Northern Fleet’s nuclear-powered submarines Vepr and Kazan held joint anti-submarine warfare drills involving a duel at a depth of up to 100 meters, the Fleet’s press office reported on Thursday.
"The crews of the third-and fourth-generation nuclear-powered submarines Vepr and Kazan held a final tactical anti-submarine warfare exercise as part of a combat training check for the winter training period," the press office said in a statement.
The drills involved a duel between the subs at depths of up to 100 meters in the Barents Sea, the press office said.
"The submariners practiced hunting down, detecting and maintaining contact with and notionally destroying an adversary submarine, designating torpedo fire by an electronic launch," the statement says.
After practicing anti-submarine warfare, the crews of the subs continued accomplishing scheduled combat training tasks in the Barents Sea, the press office said.
The Vepr and the Kazan are the third-and fourth-generation multipurpose nuclear-powered submarines. The Project 885M lead nuclear-powered submarine Kazan was delivered to the Russian Navy on May 7, 2021. Project 885/885M submarines carry Kalibr-PL and Oniks cruise missiles as their basic weapons.
