Russian naval ship test-fires air defense system in shipbuilders’ sea trials

The guard ship delivered fire at the Baltic Fleet’s combat training ranges near the coast of Russia’s westernmost Kaliningrad Region

KALININGRAD, April 20. /TASS/. The Baltic Fleet’s guard ship Neustrashimy undergoing shipbuilders’ sea trials test-fired the Kinzhal surface-to-air missile system at naval ranges in the Baltic Sea, the Fleet’s press office reported on Wednesday.

"The live fire against an aerial target was delivered from the Kinzhal surface-to-air missile system capable of reliably providing the ship’s air defense against a hypothetical enemy’s air attack weapons from various altitudes and directions. The simulated target was successfully destroyed," the press office said in a statement.

The guard ship delivered fire at the Baltic Fleet’s combat training ranges near the coast of Russia’s westernmost Kaliningrad Region, the press office added.

The Baltic Fleet’s guard ship Neustrashimy is undergoing a set of delivery/acceptance trials at the Fleet’s naval ranges after its repairs at the Yantar Shipyard on the Baltic coast. Yantar specialists have upgraded the warship’s mechanics, repaired and reinstalled boost engines and modernized its armaments and support mechanisms.

"After the trials are over, the guard ship Neustrashimy will rejoin the Baltic Fleet’s combat inventory and continue accomplishing assigned tasks as part of a formation of surface combatants," the press office said.
