Baltic Fleet jet pilots realize dream of 11-year old from Kaliningrad

A short presentation was held for Artyom before he was allowed to climb inside the Su-27 cockpit

KALININGRAD, January 14. /TASS/. Pilots of the Russian Baltic Fleet naval aviation realized the dream of a 11-year old Kaliningrad resident, by inviting him to the airbase, where Su-27 supersonic multipurpose jets are deployed, the Fleet press service reported Thursday.

"The command of the Baltic Fleet realized the long-standing dream of Artyom, the 11-year old child from the Nadezhda orphanage, to observe the naval aviation sorties and sit in the cockpit of a real jet fighter," the press service said.

A short presentation was held for Artyom before he was allowed to climb inside the Su-27 cockpit. He was told about the jet pilot gear, shown various variants of flight equipment, which pilots wear during air target interception and escort missions.

"The jet fighter regiment commander Alexey Malafeyev told Artyom about the combat machine, where Artyom took the pilot’s seat. While inside the cockpit, the boy observed Su-27 taxiing and taking off," the press service said.

The excursion ended with a tea with the aviation regiment top brass, who presented the teenager with gifts and photos of Su-27 jets made during sorties over the Baltic Sea.

The teenager thanked the pilots for realizing his New Year’s wish, noting that, after the meeting, his dream of becoming a pilot will definitely come true.
