ISLAMABAD, April 21. /TASS/. Preparations for the US-Iran talks in Islamabad have entered the final stage, and US advance teams continue to arrive ahead of the official round of negotiations, The Express Tribune reported, citing sources.
According to the newspaper, from Sunday through late Monday evening, 11 planes carrying personnel, vehicles, and operational equipment landed. The arrival of advance teams is largely complete, and the core delegations are expected to arrive by the end of the day. Sources also said the Iranian delegation may arrive in Islamabad by Tuesday evening.
The publication notes that Pakistani officials have remained silent but privately acknowledge that much of the uncertainty stems from the positions held by both sides ahead of the negotiations. Diplomatic sources say informal contacts between Washington and Tehran are ongoing.
Preparations for the second round of negotiations largely mirror those of the previous phase. To ensure security, more than 18,000 law enforcement officers have been deployed, the report says.
CNN previously reported that the second round of US-Iran talks will take place on the morning of Wednesday, April 22. US Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation. According to CNN, the Iranian delegation will be led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the republic’s unicameral parliament, the Majlis.
Iran had previously stated that no decision had been made on participation in the talks with the US.
