NEW YORK, January 7. /TASS/. The US administration intends to run Venezuela after the overthrow of President Nicolas Maduro, but will not make the Latin American country its colony and own it "forever", said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (included in the Russian list of terrorists and extremists).
"Trump wants to let everybody know he’s in charge. I want everybody to hear we’re in charge of Venezuela," Graham told the Semafor portal. "That doesn’t mean we’re going to own it forever. It’s not going to become a colony of the United States, but we’re in charge."
On January 3, the United States attacked civilian and military targets in Venezuela and took Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife out of the country.
They were taken to the United States and held at a detention facility in Brooklyn, in the south of New York. On January 5, Maduro and his wife appeared before the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. US authorities accuse them of involvement in drug trafficking, allegations both defendants have denied.
